Titanic 4D: In which I freeze to death just like Jack Dawson

I like this poster better than the 3D one.
In the 24 years of my life, I've only ever had 2 boyfriends. One in highschool (that lasted about 3-4 months), and one a couple of years ago (with an all time record of 2 years). What does this have to do with Titanic, you ask? Not much, really, only that I tend to go out by myself.*

For example, I'm not afraid of going to the movies alone.
And that is exactly what I treated myself to today- a date with myself to watch none other than James Cameron's Titanic. In 3D! (Only the really good boyfriends, which are scarce nowadays, would want to go with you, anyway.)
Pampering knows no boundariess with Hello Kitty involved...

I will be bold enough in saying this is the only James Cameron film** I like, as well as one of the longest movies I can sit through and watch. For me, 90 minutes tend to be enough especially when it involves a lot of action and people dying. I think my hormones were at their best behaviour as I didn't cry as  I had expected to (considering I bawled months ago just by watching the trailer!).
When I sat down at my seat I promised myself to pace my drinking- 3 hours plus of film would be no easy feat for my little bladder and the huge drink. As always, I failed. This may have stifled my emotions, come to think of it.
With an hour to go the tugging of the bladder began and, to make matters worse (or to enhance the experience all the more), I was freezing. The movie theater peeps seemed to crank up the AC just as people were throwing themselves overboard, as Jack and Rose were holding hands and bobbing along in the freezing water. I was shaking and shivering along with them.
When the movie finished I got my fluids prioritised- as much as I wanted to bask in the glory of Celine Dion's Oscar Winning song and finish crying peacefully, I had other business to attend to.
We've all been there, don't lie.

One thing I couldn't stop marvelling about was Kate Winslet's skin. FLAW-LESS
As was her performance, of course. But her skin- it was like porcelain.

This time round, watching the movie for the nth time, I got to thinking about the extremity/boldness of her character. Headstrong, she was (ok, now I sound like Yoda)- but she also risked her life for someone she only knew for a day, for "True Love". Wah-wah.

I admit the final scene is what gets me the most, when she meets Jack, and everyone else who went down with the ship, by the clock. That's the queue for the waterworks to begin.

That and this scene:
The elderly couple seen hugging on the bed while water floods their room are the owners of Macy's department store in New York; Ida and Isidor Strauss, both of whom died on the Titanic. Ida was offered a seat on a lifeboat but refused so that she could stay with her husband saying, "As we have lived together, so we shall die together." There was a scene filmed that depicted this moment but was cut from the final version. -- IMDb

I don't know if it was the movie theater, the glasses or a fault in the 3D remasterization, but a couple of scenes seemed to be out of focus, especially when the camera would pan out.

A picture of the ship sailing off into the sunset just because.

And this hilarity.
Guys, Titanic was a real ship? I didn't know! (Actually I did know, I'm just making fun of the other ignorant people...)

Did you get a chance to watch it in 3D in theaters? What did you think?

* Now that my friends and I happen to be scattered about around the globe...
** Ok, I haven't seen Aliens (I know, I know) and Terminator and True Lies aren't bad. But Avatar just ruined it all for me...

  1. I feel like I'm the only person who's never seen this movie xD (And yes, Avatar was absolutely awful! Pocahontas, in space, with blue people...)

    1. You must watch it (though the viewing doesn't have to be in 3D) - it's a classic ;)
Ugh, yes. Avatar was like the longest 2 hours of my life!

  2. hahaha Titanic! I went to see it to the movie theatre exactly 10 times when it first came out (and still love it). I am just not sure if I could take it in 3D...

    1. I think I was one of the few girls who didn't love it or had a crush on Leo when it first came out- I actually hated it lol. But when we got it on VHS, everything changed (though I'm still partial to Leo).
