Whoopie!

I baked cookies! There was one minor accident in which I burnt my hand in the oven- but since I did not burn the cookies, I consider the baking a huge success. The embarrassing part here is that I burnt my finger with the steam/heat of the oven, not the hot pan...

Thanks to my amazing and talented friend, Maria of Shopgirl on the blogosphere, for answering all my baking questions.* You should really check out her blog- she's got some amazing recipes and cute/fun crafts!

The cookies were made from scratch- flour, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, brown sugar, butter, buttermilk and egg- then into the oven they went!

I was excited about making my own buttermilk- it's simple, too!
Just add 1 TBS of lime to 1 Cup of milk, and let it stand for 5 minutes until it has noticeably thickened.

Voila!

This is also one of the few times my cookies look pleasant to the eye.

After I finished, I chopped some broccoli.
A-la-funny-Friday (and recent photobooth fun)...

They say imitation is the greatest form of flattery.
I'm not so sure, but it is rather fun.

Hope everyone's got plans for some Friday the 13th shenanigans ;)

  4. They look very tasty, but it reminds me that I haven't baked cookies in a long time sheesh. Slightly burning your hand is still pretty unfortunate but if they cookies made it, that makes it worth it! I made a lemon tart recently and it came out awful haha...I might have preferred the burn x

    1. They turned out tasty too, which made it even more of a success. I like to bake, but 60% of the times it turns out to be a disaster... I guess I should give that, "Practice makes perfect" thing a go.
Oh, a lemon tart! That sounds too difficult for me- but I'm sure your next go at it will be a success :)

  5. Those cookies look amazing! I've been baking a lot too lately:) Freshly baked cookies, even the simple ones, are so much better than store-bought ones!
What's the white filling? Is that the buttermilk? I'd never heard of it either.

Haha, that was awesome! You are very good at lip-sync!

    1. Yes! And they're a naturally tasty way to 'perfume' your house :)
The white filling is just frosting (yup, LOTS of calories in these!). Buttermilk was used to make the dough.

      And thanks so much!

  6. Really? Never will I buy buttermilk again! Whenever I need it for a recipe, I never know what to use the remainder for.
