Oh, Peeeetah (Parker)!*

Two movies in one week?! I'm on a roll! **

Per usual, I went by my onesy and had a little snack before hand.

It had been a while since I enjoyed a nice cup of Mocha. *Sigh* (a couple o') Sweet memories of working at a movie theater...

Let me begin by saying I've never really been a big fan of Spiderman. I've been more of a Batman kind of gal (thanks Michael Keaton!) and to be honest, Tobey Maguire just didn't do it for me.
Cue in Andrew Garfield.

Your angsty-somewhat-friendly-but-all-around-good-guy neighbourhood Spiderman. I thought it was an incredibly silly idea to remake Spiderman again, considering the other ones are recent, but I'm glad they did. Peter Parker/Spiderman are cool in my books now.
Tobey was ... not a believable hero, in my opinion. His Peter Parker was too passive... Too sensitive- uninteresting. Garfield played out an angst deftly, very human and age appropriate (he is a teenager) that gave him that extra edge Tobey didn't have.***
It was great to see Peter have fun and be reckless with his new talent- who wouldn't take advantage of a newly found super power? It's quite the temptation!
Oh, oh! The skateboard stunts = rad.

But, just as in Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Hunter- vengeance should not be your first motive in 'doing'. It's about finding that greater good, right? We're talking about serious life lessons here.

Gwen was a strong 'love-interest', not just another pretty face. Here's a strong, sexy & smart female character that takes initiative. Spoiler: Had it not been for her, Spiderman wouldn't have been able to save the day.

The Mexican in me was happy to see a reference to Luchadores. I'm baffled I never saw the similarity before! Spidey should have let himself run around bare chested too... Just sayin'.
You know who else should've gone bare chested? Asshole - er Diego Poo- I mean, Denis Leary.
It's good to hear your voice again. Where have you been hiding, my precious? [Yeah, I have weird tastes in men...]

A Spiderman 'review' wouldn't be complete without mentioning the villain.
In this case, Rhys Ifans aka. Lizard man. I think he was the best villain in a superhero movie in a while. The creature looked like it was straight out of a comic book. Again, I've never read a Spiderman comic, but I felt like the story and characters kept true to them. They didn't overdo the lizard- CGI-wise - and it wasn't disappointing either. If Voldemort had a long-lost lizard-y brother, this would be it.

Heeeere's Johnny!

The graphics were pretty groovy too. Again, I saved up some money and skipped the 3D version- don't feel like I missed out on much. I admit I roll my eyes when I spot a specific scene/shot filmed especially for 3D. "Oh, I'm sure that really would've surprised me, coming straight at me as if it were jumping off the screen..." *sarcasm*
In an interview with David Letterman, Emma Stone said that what all countries had in common was a love for 3D. Am I the only one who is still not a big fan of it?
Unless it's a ride in Universal Studios or Disneyworld, where I'm in a seat that moves/jolts, 3D does not belong in a regular movie theater (let alone, a home). I'd like to keep those extra 5 bucks, thanks.

This is the year I get my geek on.
The Avengers, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, The Dark Knight Rises and The Hobbit.
Too much to handle, amIrite?

So, this has been another of my Ish-Reviews, where I feel I talk about everything and nothing, all at the same time. Yep. That's my superpower....

What did YOU think about The Amazing Spiderman?

* A-la-Louis (of Family Guy).
** I can now also recite the Dark Knight Rises trailer in its entirety now...
*** At least in the first one and what I can remember of the 2nd one. I didn't get around to watching the 3rd.

  3. Great review. Oh, skip the third Spiderman with Tobey Maguire. Unless you want a laugh haha, they made him look emo, which I suppose might be worth your time... I digress...
This movie sounds wonderful. And I've quickly grown to love Emma Stone and pretty much all she does, so I'm sure she'll make an amazing Mary Jane here.

And I'm so with you on 3D. I've only seen two movies it really did add something to: Pina(for dance it is spectacular) and Legend of the Guardians(perhaps this is because of my love of owls, but I just loved that you could see all the individual feathers and could almost feel how soft they were).

Yeah, I think I only saw half of the 2nd one and said, "Yep. This is the end of Spiderman for me". I feel the same way about Emma Stone- I love what she's done so far, and she's so darn funny and cute! It was fun :)

I didn't know Pina had a 3D release- sounds really cool! Sounds like the graphics were awesome in Legend of the Guardians.
I saw Avatar and Alice in Wonderland in 3D- I fell asleep in both of those haha.

  4. You know, I've been totally oblivious to this movie until just recently. I couldn't believe somebody was taking another crack at this franchise (and I'm with you on the previous adaptations - I've never been much of a Spiderman fan myself either). I'll definitely have to see it at some point, though, because it sounds like it was a hit with you? And also, Danny Deckchair as the villain?! I don't know what to do with this information.

I completely agree about 3D - I've honestly never seen a film in 3D and I don't intend to. I was so annoyed when Beauty and the Beast came back to theatres last year (hello, favorite movie of my childhood) but it was only in 3D. I get just as much enjoyment out of movies without the illusion of things popping off the screen at me!

    1. I wouldn't say it's the best movie of the year, but it did its job and I enjoyed it! A good and solid summer blockbuster :) Oh, and I may havee to watch this Danny Deckchair film- had to IMDb it and I am intrigued.

Yeah, I feel like 3D has become a compensation complex with movies. I am a little interested to see what The Great Gatsby in 3D is like though- solely because 3D is more for action movies and Baz Lhurman is quite the visionary director.
