Here's To The Ladies That Watch Movies (On Their Own)

Guys, I cried watching The Dark Knight Rises. That's not much of a spoiler as it is a testament on how incredibly sensitive and slightly 'damaged' I am. I think I may need to quit on the violent/action movies for a while, they no longer work as escapism... There's enough bad shit going on in the real world as it is.

However, if you ask me to put these empathetic feelings to the test during scene work- my tear ducts dry up immediately. It's like a man unable to perform before getting it on. Fear/Anxiety does that to you.*

Notable movie trailers I had not seen before:
Breaking Dawn Part 2: I gave up on the Twilight Saga after I payed $12 to watch New Moon in theaters. Oh, I had a good laugh but knew I could have put that money to better use.
You guys, I actually read all the books in the series** and the last book was a bit of a "cock-block" for me (is that an appropriate term to use? No offense...)- there was a whole lot of build up for nothing.
Kirsten Stewart looks good as a vampire. End of story and moving on.

Man of Steel: Henry Cavill. Mmm. That's all I have to say about that for now.

Anyway, the (Ish)Review...

I'm going to start right off the bat (haaaa) with Bane.
HOW IS THAT TOM HARDY?

I was waiting for a small man to pop out of that body and James Earl Jones to walk on-screen.
That mask he wears? Terrifying. I'm pretty sure I'll be having Bane nightmares in the coming nights.

Batman-wise, I'm Team Keaton all the way. Despite his incredibly annoying voice, Christian Bale comes in at a close 2nd.
I had a hard time getting through Batman Begins because C.Bale's voice strain was too much for me to handle. I've repressed the movie completely as I honestly do not remember what happened in that film.
I was hesitant to watch The Dark Knight because of my experience with the first one, but with all the Heath Ledger hubbub, I gave it a go. Batman's voice wasn't so annoying.
Cue The Dark Knight Rises- seems to me like Bale worked on his Batman voice and picked up a new tic along the way. What was up with the upper lip action?

Christian Bale is an amazing and talented actor, so it kills me that something like this annoys me.
Did anyone else notice it? Am I exaggerating?

On another note: Pardon me, Mr. Nolan, but are you looking for a Batgirl?

Female character? Let's segway into Anne Hathaway.

The character arcs and developments were pretty solid, in my opinion but I could have done with some more Catwoman/Selina Kyle. Hathaway's performance was, for lack of a better word, rad. Like Eva Green in Dark Shadows, she's mastered the insta-switch of demure to ass-kicking lady on screen. Although not much was revealed of her, Selina Kyle felt like a complete character, and that's all the actress's doing.
Costume wise? Love the functionality of her "cat ears" that serve as goggles/glasses.

The cast: Michael Caine had some really beautiful scenes. Morgan Freeman's voice- I could listen to it all day. Marion Cotillard was PHENOMENAL. Joseph Gordon Levitt was a needed dose of good contrasting Bane's 'evil'.  Spoilers: (highlight) The good looking mayor, the hunky special agent who did not live long enough in my opinion and Cillian Murphy! And Marion Cotillard once again, for having fooled me (and Batman).

Peekaboo!
You are my Snape in the Batman series. I wanted to wrap him up in a blanket and eskimo kiss and drink tea. This is the same man who was Dracula, Beethoven and Sid.
Exactly.

Hans Zimmer's score worked drama and suspense beautifully to which the sound effects added to and did not, surprisingly, detract from it. Kudos to the sound editors!

Lessons learned in this film? If at first you don't succeed, work out incessantly for those abs of steel and be afraid of death. Then try and try again (preferably sans rope).

So, my question now is: Is this really the last Batman film for Nolan or of these installments? I didn't think I'd be saying this but, there has got to be another one.

In case it wasn't clear, this is what I was alluding to in my title:

Genuis. Pure genius.

This has been another edition of Ish-Reviews where I talk about nothing and everything at the same time. I'd like to know your thoughts!

Have you seen it? What did you think of it?

* I speak from an actor's point of view. I don't know what the male population goes through during their times.
** I discarded the evidence at random places- I left books in public spaces for people to pick up.

  2. Haha, I read all the twilight books as well. But at the last movie they forgot to turn on the sound in the theater:P I am sure I'll go to the last movie too though, I mean it's not like there will be more after. I thought BD1 was quite gory, but the next one might have more of a story again.

To be honest I've never seen a Batman movie, or at least I don't recall seeing one...

    1. I had fun reading the books, which was a suprise to me. It was a good super-light read! The movies don't translate the "cheesiness" too well, I think. I'll probably watch the movies eventually when they're on TV and I don't have to pay extra for anything :P

I didn't necessarily want to watch the new Batmans but wanted to see what the big whoop was. I was a big fan of the Tim Burton ones though :)
