I'm Not There (Or Am I?)

I have a good excuse for my recent MIA to which I partly wholly blame my sister and nephew- after all, we've been busy running around getting as much done as we can. Sadly, the bustling ended today and they'll be leaving tomorrow morning. *
I can't stress how much fun I've had and how wonderful it is to rediscover Bangkok (et Thailand). There's not been a day where I don't feel blessed and incredibly lucky to be where I am and doing (or not-doing) what I have.

While I recuperate from all the fun and sun and get off my lazy ass (many pictures will be coming up), I leave you with this week's finds and obsessions. I promise they're good! **

Uno. Chloe Sevigny for Miu Miu

I've had a girl crush on Chloe Sevigny since... a long time.
This video and this campaign puts two of my favourites together: her and Miu Miu.
I'd love to pick out clothes from her closet...

Dos. Mumford & Sons

I can't wait for their next album!

Tres. Cartoon (Cartoons)

Lately I've been missing the good stuff, like The Powerpuff Girls, CatDog, Angry Beavers, Hey Arnold!, Pound Puppies, Thundercats, etc... With my nephew around and some quality TV time with him, it was hard not to look back on my favourite cartoons of the past (and not so past).
This also meant I discovered a couple of gems (Adventure Time, The Regular Show, The Amazing World of Gumball...).

Last, but not least, THIS MIX. Parts One and Two are up.
This will definitely get you groovin' and going "I REMEMBER THAT SONG" and time travel all around in moments of your life.
LISTEN.

So, was this all you expected and more?
I hope so :)

Happy Weekend!

* T - 19 days until I go back to Mexico though!
** Okay, don't take my word for it...

Friday Dance Fun

I thought I'd shake things up a bit and take a regular funny Friday and turn it into a fun dance party.
The promise of a good weekend will do that to you.

I ♥ this video.

Get out those dancing shoes (or go au naturale*), turn the music up and jive 'til Monday morning!

* Barefeet, not that there's anything wrong with dancing in your birthday suit....

And Now, Summertime Anti-Sadness

Moving away from the mellow-ness of the last music post...

You guys remember when we were young and hip and music that would (now) be considered shameful was actually rad?
The 90's (and an early 2000) were all about catchy tunes.
If you ask me what any of these songs are about, I wouldn't know what to answer.

Did anyone really pay attention to lyrics back then?*

Uh, I actually still consider this song a favourite. I remember listening to it incessantly on a cassette- I taped it off the radio. I used to do that a lot...

Now here is a song with a positive message.

It took a whisky drink. It took a vodka drink. Then I just slur all the other lyrics -sans alcohol- until the chorus. You know everyone joins in at the top of their lungs: I GET KNOCKED DOWN, BUT I GET UP AGAIN.
Before the Jonas Bros. there was Hanson.

It's a secret no one knows.
And I never did find out!

And for some female representation: Vanessa Carlton.

Good stuff. Yay or nay?

* Or was I the only ignorant 10 year old around?

Summertime Sadness

I bought Lana del Rey's album this week.
I just had to.
I've enjoyed every single song (to my surprise!) on the CD*, especially Summertime Sadness

Sometimes I let myself take the plunge into Melancholia but let go afterwards.
These are a couple of tunes I've been listening to lately, which transport me to that place of longing- if only for a couple of minutes.
But there ain't no cure for the summertime blues...

Perfection. And the distorted voice... *shivers down my spine*
Lolita would totally play this song, coke bottle in one hand & heart-shaped sunglasses in the other.

I used to really hate this song. Like, really hate it. Mostly because his voice was incredibly whiny.
Funnily enough, I think that's what I like most about it now!

C'mon, it's Mazzy Star.

Best. Scene. Ever.** (Dean Stockwell does a pretty awesome job at lip-synching)

And some Muse, again, for good measure. For that finale with an Oomph.

What other song/artist would you include?

* Yup. Totally bought the Compact Disc. MP-what?
** Then again, Roy Orbison's one of my favourites, so I may be biased.

Music Obsessions Of Late

We've all seen Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby trailer, right?
And was anyone else truly taken by the second song in it, because it's all I've been listening to recently.

The other two songs I seem to overplay at the gym are Gaga's Americano (watching Puss in Boots on the plane might've had something to do with this...) and Muse's Neutron Star Collision.

Anything by Muse really pumps me up- or drives me to tears. I love them.

Oh. And yes. I've been singing along to that one song that has most likely caused you to roll your eyes, shrug your shoulders and dance along.

So, here's my number.
Call me. Maybe?
*wink wink*

It's Summertime.

With the weather really heating things up around here, I found it was time to hit up my go-to-come-summer playlist.
I tend to fantasize being on a beach, the reassuring sound of lapping waves lulling me to sleep, a good book in one hand and a piƱa colada in the other.
Summer's also the perfect time for adventure, to let yourself run free.

Here's to Summer!

A Personal Anthem

Many-a-moons ago (well, maybe not that many, I'm not that old...yet...) I was mildly depressed unhappy.
Circa 2002, something was bothering me- I don't remember what exactly and I don't recall ever being fully aware of it, but my friends noticed. I can't help but think my approach changed- I became a little more hostile, even to those I was comfortable around.

The morning after a slumber party at my place, while waving off one of the last to be picked up, I walked back to my room and startled my (best) friend. Was she just going through my backpack? Normally I wouldn't have minded, except her "Oh-shit-I've-been-caught" expression made me a little suspicious (and you must remember, I was a hostile hormonal and puberty ridden bitch at this time). Evil eye aside, I shrugged it off and spent the rest of the day hanging out with her* and never brought up the bag 'incident'.

The back pack. Yes, I still own it... It has come in handy on many occasions.
Now, what does this have to do with "A Personal Anthem"?
Well, a while after my friend had gone home, my suspicious mind got the best of me and I decided to check my backpack. Looking back, I have to laugh at myself- did I really think she'd steal something from me? (Not like school books or notes are much of a loot).
Hidden, underneath textbooks and binders, was a burnt CD. I teared up, for many reasons, but mainly because I felt so lucky and incredibly blessed with this great group of people in my life.
They all signed the back of the case with doodles and mini words of encouragement.

One track on the CD, and quite honestly, that was more than enough.

To this day, this is my go-to song whenever I need a pick me up. Or just an "energy booster".

What's your favourite song/artist to listen to when you want to go to that happy place?
And what's the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you?

* She still so happens to be one of my closest friends.
**They're still pretty unknown to me as I've only ever heard Lucky Denver Mint and Bleed American too.

Wool of the King

(See what I did there? Being bilingual has so many advantages...)

I'm a bit late on the LdR bandwagon.
A couple of weeks ago I had no idea who Lana del Rey was. <- That is me being honest.

Lana del Rey this and Lana del Rey that - even Kristen Wiig parodied her (fabulously, I might add) on SNL. Who was this Lana del Rey and what's the deal with her?

Yesterday, I finally decided to look up some of her songs on youtube. To my surprise, I've discovered her music isn't half bad. (Of course, that's just my opinion)

My two favourites, so far? Blue Jeans* and Kinda Outta Luck

So if you were like me, I dare you to check her music out.
Are you a hater or a lover?

* I think I've listened to Blue Jeans more than 10 times today. Oh dear.
